My Approach to Care
I am trained in EMDR and certified in multicultural counseling. I have specialized training in DBT, holistic health and wellness, integrated behavioral health, assessment, and the psychology of religion and spirituality. I have research experience in the intersection of mental health and reproductive health.
My therapeutic style combines cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, health psychology, social constructivist approaches, and narrative approaches.
Areas of Specialization
I enjoy working with neurodivergent children, adolescents, and adults. I also specialize in treating depression, anxiety, and trauma. I like working with people who want to incorporate their religious beliefs into therapy or who would like to understand how their faith and/or religious upbringing impacts the way they understand themselves and the world around them. Similarly, I support clients in understanding how their racial and cultural identities, gender, and sexual orientation impact how they move through the world and how the world interacts with them.
My Decolonized/Anti-Oppressive Lens
I approach my work through the lenses of humility, curiosity, and creativity. Humility in the awareness that clients hold the wealth of knowledge about their experiences, communities, and identities. Curiosity in learning how a person's identities, communities, and cultural inheritance transform who they are and how they perceive the world. And creativity in using these experiences, values, and strengths to inform evidence-based practice that honors the whole of a person's mind, body, spirit, and community. In all this, I collaborate with clients to raise their awareness of how systems of privilege, power, and oppression impact their emotions, relationships, and sense of self so that they can increase their well-being.
What I hope Clients Feel After Working With Me
I hope clients feel more empowered to make changes and more aware of how their identities and communities interact with the larger world. I hope this leads clients to feel secure in who they are, equipped to handle challenges, and confident in their ability to live the life they desire.
Why I Chose This Work
I became a psychologist because I wanted to know how people worked. I'm fascinated by brain function, the connection between our minds and bodies, and how our environments influence behavior. I love learning about different religions, cultures, and ways of being in the world. As a psychologist I get to meet so many fascinating people who teach me something new every day.
What I Enjoy Outside of Work
I am a nerd at heart. I love reading science fiction and fantasy novels, beating my family at board games, sewing, crochet, getting lost outside, and gossiping with my friends about reality TV. A fun fact about me is that I'm a classically trained vocalist who began singing in the third grade.
