My Approach to Care
I have extensive experience aiding individuals who have
experienced trauma or significant life stressors. I'm dedicated to facilitating their healing journeys through evidence-based approaches, including psychoeducation, Trauma-Focused Therapy, EMDR, Anchored Relational Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Experience Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Areas of Specialization
My therapeutic approach is highly individualized, addressing the unique needs of a diverse clientele that includes neurodivergent individuals, premarital counseling, adolescents, adults, Muslims, African Americans, immigrants, and other culturally diverse groups. I aim to help clients develop healthy self-perceptions and improve their relational dynamics, firmly believing in the potential for growth within each individual.
My Decolonized/Anti-Oppressive Lens
As a Black Muslim therapist, I approach therapy through a decolonized, anti-oppressive lens, understanding how systemic oppression such as racism, gender inequality, capitalism, and marginalization shapes clients’ mental and emotional well-being. I create a safe and affirming space where clients can explore their identities, including race, culture, gender, and faith, while addressing the impact of societal structures on their sense of self. By integrating African and Islamic healing traditions, I honor clients’ cultural and spiritual roots, using them as tools for empowerment and healing. My goal is to challenge harmful narratives, support clients in reclaiming their agency, and help them heal from trauma, all while emphasizing the importance of collective healing and resilience in the face of systemic injustice.
What I Hope Clients Feel After Working With Me
I truly want my clients to leave our sessions feeling deeply seen and understood in a warm and compassionate atmosphere. My greatest hope is to foster an environment where you can express yourself freely, feeling emotionally safe and free from judgment, knowing that every part of you is cherished. I strive to empower clients on their healing journey, providing reassurance that their struggles will always be met with genuine understanding and care. Ultimately, my goal is for clients to leave our sessions with a renewed sense of clarity and purpose, feeling supported as they reclaim their strength, navigate through challenges, and embrace their authentic self on their terms.
Why I Chose This Work
I am drawn to this profession because I deeply believe in the inherent value of every human life, and I genuinely want to create spaces where you feel truly seen and heard. I understand how trauma and life’s challenges can deeply affect your sense of self and how difficult it can be to navigate these struggles.
It means a lot to me to walk alongside you during these times, offering compassion and support. I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can openly express yourself, heal from past wounds, and rediscover your strength. My ultimate goal is to help you feel empowered and confident in your journey, enabling you to face life’s obstacles with authenticity and resilience.
What I Enjoy Outside of Work
Landscape photography, traveling, poetry, and Islamic history.
My Favorite Quote
"Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and twice as beautiful as you'd ever imagined. Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself." -Rumi
