Areas of Specialization
I work with anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, grief and loss, significant life transitions, parenting challenges, relational challenges, and exploring identity and value alignment. I particularly enjoy working with black and brown women, Muslim women, and first- and second-generation immigrant women. I also enjoy working with young men and women entering emerging adulthood, a particularly beautiful yet turbulent time of life.
My Decolonized/Anti-Oppressive Lens
I take a non-pathologizing, relational approach to therapeutic work. Rooted in liberatory psychology and narrative therapy, I believe my role as a therapist is to approach the therapeutic relationship with non-judgment, respect, and authenticity. I believe building the therapeutic relationship aligned with these values is a vital part of supporting clients' healing, and thus reject white supremacist notions of the "objective," "blank slate," or "empty vessel" therapist.
What I Hope Clients Feel After Working With Me
I hope a client leaves our work together feeling a sense of clarity around their personal values and sense of self, equipped with the skills they came to therapy to acquire, and connected to their communities.
Why I Chose This Work
I was introduced to clinical social work while working at a summer camp that catered to youth with substantial self-regulation challenges. Through that work I got to feel the satisfaction of acting as a supporting character in the healing journeys of others, and also met clinical social workers for the first time. Through those clinicians' mentorship I found myself in an MSW program in Massachusetts and eventually practicing as a clinical social worker myself.
What I Enjoy Outside of Work
I'm a mother, spouse, sister, and daughter. I love to spend time outdoors, at cafes, and around the Twin Cities with friends and family chatting, exploring, and playing. A fun fact about me is that I spent a large chunk of my childhood (from 10 to 17) in the United Arab Emirates.
